Last night I was trying to finish a paper regarding the new signed FTA between the EU and Colombia/Peru on Geographical Indications and I noticed something. In the draft, under the Provisions concerning Intellectual Property Rights, International Agreements (Art 195), the FTA establishes the following:2. The European Union and COLOMBIA shall adhere to the Protocol Relating to the Madrid Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Marks (1989) within a ten years period from the signature of this Agreement. PERU shall make all reasonable efforts to adhere to the Protocol Relating to the Madrid Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Marks (1989)
Therefore, following yesterday's blog regarding Colombia and the Bill 234/2009, I presume that after all Colombia will debate in favour (or not – pursuing Marmite slogan ‘you either love or hate it’) of Colombia adhering to the Madrid Protocol.
