MAPI: Tercera Edición del Premio Propiedad Intelectual

La convocatoria de la tercera edición del Premio Propiedad Intelectual ha sido publicada por el Máster de Propiedad Intelectual, Industrial y Nuevas Tecnologías (MAPI) de la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid.

Algunos de los requisitos que los trabajos deberán cumplir son los siguientes:

Los trabajos deberán ser inéditos y estar escritos en español.
Deberán contar con una extensión mínima de 40 páginas y máxima de 70 páginas.
Los trabajos deberán enviarse al correo electrónico master.propiedadintelectual@uam.es en formato Word y PDF.

El premio es de €3,500 y el trabajo del ganador será publicado en la Revista de Propiedad Intelectual.

La fecha límite para el envío de trabajos es el 30 de septiembre de 2021.

New website: Global Digital Encounters

The new website dedicated to the Global Digital Encounters (GDE) was launched some days ago.

FIDE (Legal and Business Research Foundation) and TIPSA (Transatlantic Intellectual Property Academy) organize the GDE to “support the international, European and national plans to overcome the sanitary and financial consequences of the COVID-19”. The Encounters are scheduled throughout the whole year around the topic “The role of IP in a new post-crisis world”.

The new website includes the following sections:

The Team composed of Professor Laurent Manderieux (co-director), Professor Manuel Desantes (co-director), Professor Javier Fernández-Lasquetty (academic coordinator) and Álvaro Arribas (technical coordinator).
The Encounters. This section includes information about each Encounter, the recording, suggested readings, and the report on such a session.
Our Publications. This section comprises all the reports on the Encounters.
The Academy Family refers to all the Encounters’ speakers and moderators, who are “worldwide known Academics and IP Senior Specialists from all continents”.
The Support Team of the Encounters
Support Entities of the Encounters. IPTango is pleased to be one of them!

Call for Chapter Intangible Cultural Heritage and Intellectual property

*Intangible Cultural Heritage and Intellectual property*

If you have expertise in these areas, I would love you to contribute to the book Transboundary Heritage and Intellectual Property Law: Safeguarding Intangible Cultural Heritage (Routledge, 2021)

You will be invited to write a chapter (8,000 words -- all inclusive: footnotes and bibliography). Drafts are due by the 31st of April 2021 (for internal peer-review purposes). If you would like to co-author the piece with someone, this is also welcome.

To maximize the potential impact of the volume in connecting transboundary heritage studies more firmly to intellectual property law, I kindly ask you to consider a chapter on ‘ownership’ bearing in mind that the book is interdisciplinary, so contemplate a reader that has no law background. I ask you to reflect on the following matters when drafting your chapter:

1. Concepts of property rights, possession rights and responsibilities; including collective rights, and control access. This should focus on key legal concepts.

2. Desires for access and control over traditional knowledge, and genetic resources.

3. Traditional proprietary system and how they operate in different contexts, for instance: civil law, common law, national law, international law, and customary law.

4. How does the law operate in practice in relation to transboundary intangible cultural heritage?

5. What are the flaws of the system? Suggestions to improve are welcome.

6. Please provide short examples if possible or you can develop the chapter on a case study.

Finally, if you would like to contribute, please submit an abstract of 400 words to me by the 8th of March, 2021. This will allow the editor to give some guidance at the early stages of preparation of the manuscript. In your abstract, please include the central thesis and the structure. Also, include a short biography and contact details.

IIJ UNAM: Seminario Permanente de Propiedad Intelectual 2021-1

El 10 de febrero de 2021 se llevará a cabo la segunda sesión del Seminario Permanente de Propiedad Intelectual (SEPEPI) 2021-1, organizado por el Instituto de Investigaciones Jurídicas (IIJ) de la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM).

El tema de la segunda sesión del SEPEPI es “La propuesta de Ley de Ciencia y Tecnología desde la Propiedad Intelectual”. El evento se transmitirá en vivo en la página de Facebook del IIJ UNAM.

Los ponentes son Ana Georgina Alba Betancourt (IIJ UNAM), María del Carmen Arteaga Alvarado (Facultad de Derecho, UNAM), Manuel Becerra Ramírez (IIJ UNAM) y Rafael Pérez Miranda (UAM).

El Seminario Permanente de Propiedad Intelectual (SEPEPI) tiene cuatro años funcionando y las grabaciones de las ediciones anteriores están disponibles en la videoteca (de acceso libre) del IIJ UNAM.

ASIPI: Convocatoria para el volumen 26 de la publicación “Derechos Intelectuales”

La Asociación Interamericana de la Propiedad Intelectual (ASIPI) lanzó la convocatoria para el volumen 26 de la publicación “Derechos Intelectuales”.

Algunos de los requisitos que los artículos deberán cumplir son los siguientes:

Los artículos deberán estar escritos en idioma español, inglés o portugués.
Los artículos deberán ser inéditos.
Deberán abordar temas de propiedad intelectual o industrial.
Deberán contar con una extensión mínima de 8,000 palabras y máxima de 15,000 palabras.

La fecha límite para postularse a participar en el volumen 26 es el 16 de abril de 2021. Los artículos deberán enviarse a más tardar el 20 de agosto de 2021. El volumen 26 estará disponible a fines de 2021.

“Derechos Intelectuales” es una publicación anual de ASIPI, distribuida en formato digital, que cuenta ya con 25 volúmenes. La colección resulta de gran relevancia para profesionales e investigadores del área de propiedad intelectual (en sentido amplio), al reflejar los avances que se han dado en la materia.

Register now! Encounter 9: Brexit - European and worldwide IP

On 10 February 2021, FIDE (Legal and Business Research Foundation) and TIPSA (Transatlantic Intellectual Property Academy) will hold the Encounter 9: Brexit - European and worldwide IP.

The panellists are Professors Alison Firth (University of Surrey), Craig Nard (Case Western Reserve University School of Law) and Alain Strowel (UCLouvain). The moderator of the session is Professor Gabriele Gagliani (Bocconi University).

The suggested readings and the report on the session will be available on the Global Digital Encounters (GDE) website as time goes by.

INTA: 2021 calendar of events

Today, the International Trademark Association (INTA) announced some events that will take place this year.

Etienne Sanz de Acedo (INTA’s CEO) emphasized that the agenda changes are innovative and critical because of the pandemic. Thus, they were made based on prioritizing the attendees’ health and safety.

Therefore, the “Trademark Administrators and Practitioners Meeting” will not be offered in 2021, and all conferences will be held online.

The Annual and Leadership Meetings will switch the usual time of the year.

Consequently, the Annual Meeting will not occur from 1 to 5 May in San Diego, California, as was expected. It will be held from 15 to 19 November in Houston (Texas, USA), and it will also include virtual programming.

Etienne also announced that the 2022 Annual Meeting will take place from 25 to 29 April 2022 in Singapore.

The 2021 calendar of events is the following:

23 - 24 March 2021. (Online) Conference “2021 What’s Next for Brands: A View from Europe”.
3 - 7 May 2021. (Online) INTA’s 2021 Leadership Meeting.

UTP y ASIPI: Se llevó a cabo la Segunda Edición del Moot Court de Propiedad Intelectual

Como se anunció aquí, la Universidad Tecnológica del Perú (UTP) y la Asociación Interamericana de la Propiedad Intelectual (ASIPI) organizaron la segunda edición del Moot Court de Propiedad Intelectual (Moot Court).

En esta edición, se contó con la participación de 32 equipos integrados por estudiantes de derecho provenientes de Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador y Perú.

El Moot Court constó de una fase escrita y una fase oral. La fase oral incluyó rondas generales y finales, a la cual avanzaron 16 equipos, los cuales intervinieron en 23 juicios orales.

Las rondas finales y premiación se llevaron a cabo el 16 de enero de 2021, en las que participaron los equipos de la Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú y de la Universidad Mayor de San Marcos de Perú.

El jurado estuvo conformado por 70 especialistas de 10 países, quienes intervinieron en las diversas etapas del Moot Court.

En la ceremonia de premiación participaron Luis Diez Canseco (decano de la Facultad de Derecho de la UTP), Elisabeth Siemsen (presidente de ASIPI), Gustavo García Brito (presidente del Tribunal de Justicia de la Comunidad Andina), así como diversos funcionarios y juristas.
