IViR Summer Course on International Copyright Law and Policy 2022

The Institute for Information Law (IViR) will hold the Summer Course on International Copyright Law and Policy (ICL) from 4 to 8 July 2022 in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

The course is taught by renowned scholars and practitioners in the field of copyright law. Faculty is composed of Bernt Hugenholtz, Pamela Samuelson, Martin Senftleben, Séverine Dusollier, Daniel Gervais, Remy Chavannes, Sean Flynn, Paul Keller and João Quintais.

ICL is addressed to lawyers, academics, and other professionals. Participants should have some prior knowledge of the area. The programme includes the following topics:

International framework of protection and policy issues
Trade and investment agreements
Authors’ rights and remuneration
Copyright exceptions and limitations
Collective administration of rights in the digital era
Copyright, data and artificial intelligence
Intermediary liability and online copyright enforcement
Copyright and open information policy: international and EU updates
Policy exercise: draft treaty on copyright exceptions for research and access to knowledge

A boat tour through the canals of Amsterdam and a welcome dinner are also part of the programme!

Encounter 18: IP And Videogames

On 20 January 2022, FIDE (Legal and Business Research Foundation) and TIPSA (Transatlantic Intellectual Property Academy) will hold the Encounter 18: IP And Videogames.

The panellists are Andrea Rizzi (Queen Mary University London) and Alina Trapova (University of Nottingham). Carmelo Fontana (Google) will moderate the session.

The suggested readings and the report on the session will be available on the Global Digital Encounters (GDE) website as time goes by.

C-IP2‘s Virtual 2021 Annual Fall Conference: Artificial Intelligence and Intellectual Property

The Center for Intellectual Property x Innovation Policy (C-IP2) at George Mason University will hold the Virtual 2021 Annual Fall Conference on Artificial Intelligence and Intellectual Property from 13 to 14 October 2021.

The C-IP2‘s Virtual 2021 Annual Fall Conference will address “the current state of AI, what is coming soon, the current laws regarding the protection of AI and IP, and what is necessary to keep pace with technology”.

This year, the conference is structured around the forthcoming edited volume Research Handbook on Intellectual Property and Artificial Intelligence (Professor Ryan Abbott, ed). Some of the authors will provide insights into their chapters at the event.

The program covers the following topics:

Panel 1: Artificial Intelligence – Challenges and Controversies
Panel 2: The Economics of Artificial Intelligence and Intellectual Property
Panel 3: Artificial Intelligence in the Life Sciences
Panel 4: Owning AI and Protecting AI Output
Panel 5: Trademark Law and Artificial Intelligence
Panel 6: Tech Policy in Artificial Intelligence

The keynote speakers are Grimes and Jaron Lanier, participating in a fireside chat moderated by Professor Sean M. O’Connor (C-IP2).

The speakers are from academia and industry, including Dr Ryan Abbott (University of Surrey), Professor Daniel J. Gervais (Vanderbilt Law School), Professor Sonia Katyal (Berkeley Center for Law and Technology), Professor Arti K. Rai (Duke University School of Law), Professor Daryl Lim (Center for Intellectual Property, Information & Privacy Law), Dennis Crouch (University of Missouri School of Law), Dr Anke Moerland (Maastricht University), Dr Harbir Antil (CMAI), Charles Kim (USPTO), Ian Slotin (NBCUniversal), Corey Salsberg (Novartis), and Trevor Cook (WilmerHale). New Year, New Encounter!

FIDE (Legal and Business Research Foundation) and TIPSA (Transatlantic Intellectual Property Academy) will hold the Encounter 8: The Artificial Intelligence and Data-Led Revolution of Copyright and its Wider Implications on 13 January 2021.

The panellists are Professors Christophe Geiger (CEIPI) and Daniel J. Gervais (Vanderbilt University). Professor Ulrika Wennersten (Lund University) will moderate the session.

There are no fees for attending the event, but you need to register here.

As usual, the suggested readings related to the Encounter topic and the report on the session will be available on the dedicated website for the Global Digital Encounters (GDE), so keep an eye on it!

The GDE are organised by FIDE and TIPSA to “support the international, European and national plans to overcome the sanitary and financial consequences of the COVID-19”. The Encounters are scheduled throughout the whole year around the topic “The role of IP in a new post-crisis world”. Likewise, the speakers are “selected among the most relevant IP scholars and professionals all over the world”.

Concurso: 5ta edicion del Premio Antonio Delgado

Fredy Adolfo Forero Villa Coordinador Jurídico del Observatorio Iberoamericano de Derecho de Autor (ODAI) nos trae esta gran noticia para los investigadores. Se trata del nombrado premio Antonio Delgado sobre estudios de investigación en torno al derecho de autor y a los derechos conexos.

La nota de prensa:

El Instituto de Derecho de Autor (Instituto Autor) y el Observatorio Iberoamericano de Derecho de Autor (ODAI) convocan la 5ª edición del Premio Antonio Delgado (PAD) sobre estudios de investigación en torno al derecho de autor y a los derechos conexos; los cuales deberán de ser abordados desde una perspectiva internacional, siempre que la materia lo permita. Se admitirán también estudios de derecho comparado. La convocatoria está abierta hasta el próximo 10 de enero de 2018. Los trabajos han de remitirse antes de esa fecha por correo electrónico a la cuenta pad@institutoautor.org, con copia a fforero@cerlalc.org.

El premio tiene una dotación económica de 3.000 euros para el estudio ganador y un accésit dotado con 1.500 euros para el estudio finalista. Además, el estudio ganador será publicado por el Instituto Autor.

Con la convocatoria de este premio, el Instituto Autor trata de honrar la memoria y el legado de Antonio Delgado Porras, maestro de generaciones de profesionales de la propiedad intelectual, tanto en España como en Latinoamérica. Territorios donde tuvo un importante papel en el desarrollo de buena parte de sus legislaciones en materia de derecho de autor, derechos conexos y gestión colectiva.

El jurado del premio estará compuesto por tres juristas de reconocido prestigio, que tendrán en cuenta como criterios de valoración la originalidad y altura creativa, la actualidad o la aplicación práctica del tema, entre otros. El fallo del Jurado será comunicado, tanto en la web del Instituto Autor como del ODAI, el 16 de febrero de 2018.
