Colombian coffee-growers successfully invoke GI in Spain

Critics and cynics have mocked the imbalance of bilateral trade agreements between the European Union and the countries of Latin America since they are so one-sided: for example, the European Union has far more geographical indications. However, the Class 46 European trade mark blog reports this week on the enforcement of a Colombian GI in Spain: the GI in question is "CAFÉ DE COLOMBIA", which was enough to prevent registration of a local applicant's CAFÉ DE NARIÑO trade mark.
