Critics and cynics have mocked the imbalance of bilateral trade agreements between the European Union and the countries of Latin America since they are so one-sided: for example, the European Union has far more geographical indications. However, the Class 46 European trade mark blog reports this week on the enforcement of a Colombian GI in Spain: the GI in question is "CAFÉ DE COLOMBIA", which was enough to prevent registration of a local applicant's CAFÉ DE NARIÑO trade mark.
