Readers of this weblog must by now be almost fed up with the long-running saga of Colombia's dalliance with the Madrid Protocol. First it was a question of "will she, won't she?" Then it became not a question of "whether" but of "when". All of this has been covered at regular intervals by your dedicated correspondents. But now we know the final answer. A WIPO media release, "Colombia Joins the International Trademark System", tells us that the Madrid Protocol will be effective for Colombia -- the 87th member of the international trade mark system -- on 29 August 2012.
