There is a new cooperation agreement between two powerful Patent Offices – oh yes! Last Monday, Sept 26th the Brazilian Intellectual Property Office (INPI) and the European Patent Office (EPO) has signed a cooperation agreement in Geneva, Switzerland, where the General Assembly of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) is being held (more info regarding the 49th series Meeting of WIPO's members here).
Oh yes? Well, not for long I have to say. The agreement will have five years validity – good enough I think. The agreement aims to carry out joint activities on topics such as: patent examination and administrative procedures, development of human resources, automation of the two institutes, and information technology.
Mr Avila, INPI’s president, and Battistelli, EPO’s president, agreed that this cooperation between the two will benefit both the European and Brazilian companies as well as users of the patent system in general .
