It has recently been reported that a proposed Law for Improving the Application Process before Public Institutions and to Improve the Quality of Life of Citizens (Legislative File No. 17,624) was published in La Gaceta, the official journal of the Costa Rican government, this June. It seeks to simplify public administration and to accelerate the processing of applications filed with government agencies -- including trade mark applications.
Trade mark attorneys have reportedly opposed the proposed legislation on the ground that some of the proposed deadlines are unrealistically short, especially if counsel is taking instructions from a client in a foreign country.
