Brazilian Instituto Nacional da Propiedade Industrial (INPI)’s Academy of Innovation and Intellectual Property promotes this October the 4th, 2010 a seminar on the deposit of microorganisms for patent applications.
When a patent application involves microorganisms, IP offices need to deposit the material in an approved institution. Latin America does not have an authorized institution for this purpose. INPI together with the National Institute of Metrology and the Standardization and Industrial Quality (Inmetro), are building the Brazilian Center for Biological Material (CBMB) to solve this problem.
The seminar will be lead by national and foreign experts: Vera Weihs, ( from the German center responsible for collections of microorganisms and cell cultures), Ewald Glantschinig (WIPO) and Rosana Bernardo da Silva (INPI). Zea Mayerhoffer (INPI) will be the moderator for the date.
To register send full name and institution to eventopi@inpi.gov.br.
